Sixteen

10 May

Today is the day when I finally reach
one
two
three
four
five
six
seven
eight
nine
ten
eleven
twelve
thirteen
fourteen
fifteen
Sixteen
I found out today
That a girl my age passed on
A few days back
And it struck me on the fragility of life
It is like sand
Sifting through fingers
Time moves equally as fast
Fast paced cars in the city

“only when someone dies we then notice their living.”

We notice how dull their skin was
The sadness in the sunken eyes
How every smile
Should have been treasured
The things we once said to them
That every laughter should have been counted
We should have said “you look so beautiful today.”
But we didn’t
Because so many of us conformed
To the world’s standards of beauty
The ones fighting
The ones who struggled
Are not the ones considered beautiful
But they are.
Their strength and fighting spirit to live
Is not something every one has
And that
Is what you call beauty

Happy sixteenth to me hehe
